7 questions for a sex educator: an interview with Anna Halaieva, founder of DilDom and the vibrator cafe
1. Why is the topic of sexual comfort still awkward or "shameful" for many?
The topic of sexual health and sexual comfort, fortunately, is entering the space of more open conversations – which is precisely why we are writing this article now. The key to bringing such topics into the light is to discuss them professionally, appropriately, correctly, with an understanding of the subject matter and its specifics. It is important to understand: talking about sex is not something vulgar or bad. It is an important part of an adult's life, which, like any other area, requires understanding, attention, and effort.
2. Is lubricant about a problem or about self-care and body care? Why should even people without physical discomfort use lubricant?
Lubricant is not a medical product for preventing something. It is a product created to enhance comfort, and satisfaction in the sexual sphere and sexual contact depends on comfort. Lubricants can be used for various types of sex, and there is no physical necessity for it.
At the same time, it is worth noting that many women today have the problem of vaginal dryness – a syndrome that is noticeably affecting younger people. Gynecologists have been recording it more and more frequently in recent years. But even without this, lubricant always makes penetration more comfortable and toy use safer, as it is used not only with a partner but also necessarily with sex toys.
Therefore, the use of lubricant does not require any special conditions or indications. It is purely a means for your comfort and pleasure.
3. What should you pay attention to when choosing a lubricant?
When choosing a lubricant, you should pay attention to:
- Composition — focus on personal sensitivity, as allergies can occur to any component. Be sure to test the lubricant before full use.
- Base — the most universal lubricants are water-based: they are suitable for use with any toys and for solo use.
- Purpose of use — different types of sex may require different lubricants.
- Expiration date and time after opening — these data are indicated on the packaging.
For example, DilDom × Rebellion HORNY FLOWER lubricant was created with a focus on comfort, safety, and atmosphere.
Its water-based formula has a physiological pH and is suitable for regular use. It contains panthenol and gluconolactone, which help maintain comfort and softness during use.
The gel has a pleasant non-sticky texture, spreads easily, and provides long-lasting glide without a "film" sensation.
A special emphasis is placed on the juicy peach scent, which adds lightness and a sensual mood to intimacy. This is a functional product that is part of the atmosphere and emotional contact.
HORNY FLOWER is suitable for vaginal contact, oral practices and stimulation, safe if a small amount is swallowed, compatible with condoms and sex toys, sugar-free, and leaves no stains.
4. Why, in your opinion, are physicality and connection with oneself becoming so important for people now?
Physicality and connection with one's own body are not only becoming important topics now — they always have been, because physical comfort is a basic human need, as is sex. If these topics are more talked about, it is precisely because today we have more opportunities to discuss them openly.
5. What are the most common mistakes or fears you see in sex education today?
This is such a broad question that one could write a treatise on it. But among the most common are the rejection of differences, the pursuit of an imaginary ideal, and the belief that being oneself requires no knowledge or effort.
6. How do you think the culture of attitude towards sexuality and pleasure is changing in Ukraine?
It's a certain "bubble," and it varies in each one. But I see positive dynamics: if previously it was acceptable to openly talk about sexuality at public events mostly in big cities, now more and more people – regardless of where they live – are open to learning new things, talking about their own body, health, and pleasure. And that's great!
7. In short: what would you like every person to know about their body and pleasure?
I would like every person to be interested in their body and pleasure, to explore them, and to be open to discoveries. It is precisely the curiosity about one's own pleasure and the willingness to explore it that is the key to a great quality of life and sex.
